We in the Irish Congress of Trade Unions have been actively campaigning at national level for action to tackle the gender pay gap for many years. This has included our General Secretary speaking at a Gender Pay Gap Symposium hosted by the Department of Business, Enterprise & Innovation and the Department of Justice & Equality in 2018. This followed our submission to Government on tackling the gender pay gap in 2017 Much of our work in the equality area has the potential to tackle the gender pay gap, including: 

• Early Years Care and Education 
• Living wages 
• Work-life balance: here, here and here 
• Social protection: here and here 
• Submission to Citizen’s Assembly on Gender Equality 
• Women’s Conference 2022 

We ran a project to prepare affiliates for gender pay gap reporting which was legislated for in 2022. This involved training and the production of a guide for unions and we are now following up on the first round of reports published by large employers.
